If you need touch-sensitive knobs and EQ/plugin/send/pan control, the Alphatrack will deliver. I simply didn't like the fader as much as the Faderport's. The 32-character LCD display is especially noteworthy. There’s a small single fader device through to a large 16 fader unit with this, the FaderPort 8, sitting neatly in the middle of the FaderPort range providing (as the name suggests) 8 motorised faders, a single encoder for pan, transport and essential DAW navigation controls. The feature set of the Alphatrack is excellent though. Presonus, the makers of Studio One, offers a range of budget friendly control surfaces called FaderPorts. I just bought the Faderport because I needed a mixing fader, and its fader felt a lot better than that of the Alphatrack to ME. Both are capable one-motorised-fader units with plenty of controls. If you need a couple of faders, that's a good option with the artist series mix unit. Mackie is in deep shit at the moment and is stuggling to manfacture all it needs to. I'm told it might take months to get it serviced. The repair and part situation is VERY bad though, which is what I currently find myself in as my faithful four year MCU finally crapped out(frequent loss of touch sense and one totally crapped out fader). Budget and feature requirements meet yet again.Ī Mackie Universal Control is not cheap but rather effective and can't be beat on features. The Avid Artist Mix is definitely among the best control surface option available to most home studio owners (with or without Pro Tools).
